Combination Skin Tips & Routine
Welcome to the combination skin club! This skin type is both oily and dry areas on the face and it is important to hydrate the skin as well as exfoliate to help maintain a healthy barrier!
Signs that you have combination skin:
Forehead, nose and chin are usually oily
Cheeks, jaw and hairline are often dry
Breakouts around the cheeks and jawline
Blackheads
Combination skin can change with the seasons and due to other factors, such as stress or hormone fluctuations as well as genetics. Effective cleansing and hydration are key to care for skin that's oily or normal in some places and dry in others.
There are certain ingredients that are ideal for combination skin that can help hydrate the dry areas and care for the oily areas. Some ingredients I recommend for combination skin is a good chemical exfoliant (I love mandelic acid), Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide and Ceramides.
Mandelic Acid is derived from almonds and is great for exfoliating, brightening and hydrating. Do not use if you have an almond allergy.
Hyaluronic Acid is an ingredient that is known for its ability to hold onto moisture. HA attracts and holds up to 1,000 times its weight in moisture, delivering this hydration to the skin. It leaves the skin looking fuller, smoother and more glowy.
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) is anti-inflammatory and helps lesson acne-related redness and irritation. It enhances the skin’s barrier and is very effective in regulation sebum production and the appearance of pores.
Ceramides are comprised of lipids (fat molecules) which form a protective barrier on the surface of the skin.
