Oily Skin Tips & Routine

Welcome to the oily skin club! The plus side to having oily skin is that you will age better ;) Thanks to the sebaceous glands working over time you are less likely to form fine lines and wrinkles.

Signs that you may have oily skin:

  • Skin is shiny and often has breakouts

  • Less visible fine lines & wrinkles

  • Visible and enlarged looking pores

  • Makeup wares off easily throughout the day

There are certain ingredients that are ideal for oily skin that can help regulate sebum production while keeping the skin healthy and radiant. Some of my favorite ingredients for oily skin are retinol, glycolic acid (AHA) & salicylic acid (BHA), Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid.

Retinol (Vitamin A derivative) is great for regulating sebum production and minimizing the appearance of pores. Retinol also has amazing anti-aging benefits to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Do not use while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Glycolic Acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA - derived from sugarcane) can help regulate sebum production, exfoliate, and rejuvenate oily skin.

Salicylic Acid is a Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA - derived from willow bark) that is known for its ability to penetrate deep into the pores and exfoliate the skin. This acid works by dissolving buildup of dead skin cells and excess oil that clogs pores, which can lead to more breakouts. It’s great at preventing blackheads and whiteheads from forming, which are common for those with oily skin. Salicylic acid is also great for reducing redness and inflammation with its anti-inflammatory properties! Do not use while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) is anti-inflammatory and helps lesson acne-related redness and irritation. It enhances the skin’s barrier and is very effective in regulation sebum production and the appearance of pores. This ingredient is beneficial for oily skin types that are prone to dehydration.

Hyaluronic Acid is a humectant that naturally occurs in the skin and has a 1000-fold water absorption capacity. It is lightweight and hydrates without clogging pores or causing excess oil production. It is great for enhancing the skin’s texture and tone!
