dry vs. dehydrated skin
keeping your skin hydrated is extremely important & especially to prevent aging!
There is a big difference between dry and dehydrated skin and it’s important to know which you have to treat it the best way possible!
Dry skin is a skin type that doesn't produce enough oils to keep your skin moisturized and protected from the environment whereas dehydrated skin doesn't have enough water in the uppermost layer of the skin.
Dry skin:
The skin lacks lipids
There is visual dryness, rough and flakey skin
The skin appears less flexible and less plump
The skin is more dry in the cold, winter months
The best way to repair dry skin is to use lipid-rich emollient products that will restore the barrier and help keep irritants out.

Dehydrated skin:
The skin lacks water
The skin can feel dry and tight in places, yet oily at the same time
The skin can experience breakouts and irritation caused by the skin’s lack of water
Can be experienced during any season
A great way to check if you have dehydrated skin is the pinch test.
Pinch a small amount of skin on your cheek, abdomen, chest, or the back of your hand and hold for a few seconds. If your skin snaps back, you’re likely not dehydrated. If it takes a few moments to bounce back, you’re likely dehydrated.
The best way to repair dehydrated skin is to use humectant rich products that balance the skin. A humectant is a substance that attracts and holds water, making things moist.
